First Majestic Silver is steadily bringing one of Nevada’s significant dormant gold assets back toward production—and the scale of the company’s 2026 exploration program suggests Jerritt Canyon is becoming increasingly important to the First Majestic story.
Invest Offshore congratulates First Majestic Silver Corp. (@FMSilverCorp) on reporting the completion of approximately 13,000 meters of drilling at its Jerritt Canyon Gold Project during the first half of 2026, part of an ambitious 42,000-meter full-year exploration program.
Located in Elko County, Nevada, Jerritt Canyon represents something considerably larger than a conventional exploration project. It combines a substantial existing gold resource, extensive underground infrastructure and, critically, a processing facility containing one of only three roasters in the State of Nevada.
That combination makes the proposed restart worth watching.
From Temporary Suspension to a $75 Million Restart
First Majestic placed Jerritt Canyon on temporary suspension in March 2023, giving the company time to reassess mining methods, operating costs, infrastructure and the broader geological opportunity.
Three years later, the strategy has taken a significant step forward.
In April 2026, First Majestic announced a planned $75 million restart investment, targeting the resumption of gold production during the second half of 2027.
The program is expected to include underground development and rehabilitation, improvements to the processing plant and supporting infrastructure, continued exploration drilling and technical work leading toward a pre-feasibility study expected in Q4 2026.
Rather than simply switching an old mine back on, First Majestic appears to be approaching Jerritt Canyon as a redesigned mining operation—one intended to benefit from better geological understanding, more selective mining methods and a substantially larger exploration dataset.
Nearly 8 Million Ounces of Gold Resources

The scale of Jerritt Canyon’s existing mineral inventory provides the foundation for that strategy.
First Majestic reports 2025 resources of approximately:
- 4.1 million ounces of gold in the Measured & Indicated categories
- 3.7 million ounces of gold in the Inferred category
That represents approximately 7.8 million ounces of contained gold across the reported resource categories.
The company’s presentation places the Measured & Indicated resource at approximately 54.26 million tonnes grading 2.35 g/t gold, while the Inferred resource totals approximately 46.62 million tonnes grading 2.44 g/t gold.
Those are substantial numbers for an established Nevada mining district.
And exploration continues.
The 13,000 meters completed in the first half of 2026 represents only part of First Majestic’s planned 42,000-meter 2026 drilling campaign, giving the company considerable opportunity to refine existing resources, test extensions and potentially identify additional zones capable of supporting a longer-term mine plan.
The Nevada Roaster Advantage
One aspect of Jerritt Canyon deserves particular attention from investors: its processing infrastructure.
The property’s processing complex includes one of only three operating-capable roasting facilities in Nevada.
Roasting is particularly important for certain refractory gold ores, where gold is locked within sulfide minerals and cannot be efficiently recovered through conventional processing alone.
That makes a permitted and established roaster a strategic asset in its own right.
Mining projects can spend years navigating permitting, engineering, financing and construction before reaching production. Jerritt Canyon already possesses a significant portion of the infrastructure required to process difficult Nevada gold ores.
In a world where permitting timelines and development costs have become increasingly important constraints on new mine supply, existing infrastructure can dramatically change the economics—and the strategic relevance—of a mineral property.
Nevada Remains America’s Gold Country
Jerritt Canyon also benefits from geography.
Nevada remains one of the world’s great gold-producing jurisdictions, supported by generations of geological knowledge, mining expertise, specialized contractors, infrastructure and an established regulatory framework.
The state’s enormous Carlin-type gold systems have made northern Nevada synonymous with large-scale American gold mining.
First Majestic therefore isn’t attempting to establish a mining industry where none exists. It is working within one of the deepest mining ecosystems anywhere in North America.
That distinction becomes increasingly important as Washington places greater attention on domestic mineral production, secure supply chains and strategically important American resource assets.
Gold may not receive the same “critical mineral” designation as copper, lithium or rare earths, but monetary uncertainty and persistent central-bank gold buying have reinforced the metal’s strategic importance.
Against that backdrop, bringing a major Nevada gold asset back into production carries significance beyond another mine restart.
From First Majestic Silver to a Bigger Gold Story
The irony is difficult to miss.
First Majestic is one of the best-known names in the silver sector, yet Jerritt Canyon gives the company exposure to a very substantial American gold resource.
A successful restart could create an increasingly valuable counterweight to the company’s silver-focused operations.
The immediate milestones are now becoming clear: complete the expanded 2026 drilling campaign, advance underground rehabilitation, refine mining methods, complete the pre-feasibility study and prepare Jerritt Canyon for its targeted H2 2027 return to gold production.
None of those steps is automatic. Mine restarts carry engineering, cost, permitting, execution and commodity-price risks, and investors should distinguish mineral resources from economically recoverable reserves.
But First Majestic has something enormously valuable to work with: millions of ounces of gold, existing underground workings, established processing infrastructure and one of Nevada’s rare roasting facilities.
Invest Offshore Perspective
The best mining stories are not always discoveries in untouched ground.
Sometimes they involve taking a major existing asset, applying new capital, new geological information and better operating methods, and creating something far more valuable than what existed before.
Jerritt Canyon increasingly looks like that kind of story.
Invest Offshore congratulates First Majestic Silver on reaching the 13,000-meter drilling milestone during H1 2026 and on committing to the much larger 42,000-meter exploration program.
The coming Q4 2026 pre-feasibility study could be the next major marker.
If First Majestic succeeds in bringing Jerritt Canyon back into production during the second half of 2027, Nevada won’t simply regain another gold mine.
It could regain a strategically important gold-processing complex with the resource base and infrastructure to matter for many years to come.
